welcome

Colchis Ltd is dedicated to bringing Sulguni, a traditional Georgian cheese, to the New Zealand market for the first time. We hope our website will help you discover more about this unique cheese, which is much loved across Eastern Europe but unknown in New Zealand.

news & updates

26.04.10 / At long last, I have gotten around to updating the website layout, and the list of retailers... now that the weather has gotten colder I suddenly find myself in the mood for desk-work! We've got a couple of new stores in Auckland now stocking our cheese, as well as one in Wellington and in Whitianga (starting this weekend).

Also, Farro Fresh are now selling our delicious Georgian cheese-bread, and I hear it's going like hot-cakes so get down there quick!

18.03.10 / Happy belated New Year, everyone! We have been keeping busy and have somewhat neglected to update our website, which is of course my fault since Marina's computing skills are still somewhat lacking! But the good news is that we picked up another medal at this year's Cuisine Champions of Cheese Awards, silver this time, for a new cheese we developed - a salty, hard version of sulguni. Getting the right packaging sorted is taking a little time, as usual, so we haven't started to sell it in shops yet, though you can find it at the farmer's markets. Also, for all of you outside of Auckland, you can now order our cheese online to be delivered anywhere in New Zealand thanks to the lovely Karen Pervan from Tastes From Around New Zealand. And Wellington, hold tight, as we are working on getting our cheese into some of your favourite delis!

Also, when I get around to it, I hope to remodel the website entirely and make it fit with the new labels we put on the cheese. We have decided to ditch the logo you see in the top left corner, as it leads many people to think we make goat's cheese, when the logo is in fact meant to be the golden fleece from the legend of Jason and the Argonauts (who went to Colchis to retrieve the golden fleece)! We should've thought that through a little more, in hindsight! I just thought to mention my plans on the website, so if there's pressure to live up to my word I might actually get around to doing it sometime this decade!

01.12.09 / Finally, the new packaging is ready to go, and we are once again stocking our cheese at all our usual retailers, as well as a couple of new ones. Check our list of retailers to find out where you can buy our cheese around Auckland.

01.10.09 / We're back! You can find us every weekend at the farmer's markets in Parnell, Grey Lynn and Alexandra Park. We are currently working on new packaging, and as soon as that's done--and it will be soon, we hope!--we'll be back to selling at the deli stores as well.

29.05.09 / We will be taking a break this winter, but will resume cheese production in the beginning of spring.

11.03.09 / We are pleased to announce that we have won a gold medal for Sulguni and a bronze for Inguli at the Cuisine Cheese Awards. We would like to thank everybody for their support, and are now looking forward to exhibiting at the Taste of Auckland. Also, apologizes to all our customers who are used to shopping at Nosh, but we are no longer selling our cheese there.
